Salary information

Most think higher education is the key to getting a well-paying job.  Most careers now require more than just the standard Bachelor’s Degree, which means going onto some of the more advanced educational realms to get either a Master’s Degree, several different Master’s, or even a combination of a Doctorate and Master’s Degrees.  The salary of several different professions is not directly relative to that amount of education required.

A brain surgeon can spend anywhere from 14 year to over 20 years completing their education and gaining the ability to practice on their own.  The amount of work they put in shows when they are finally able to draw a salary, with the average brain surgeon salary coming in around $355,000.  For many, that will cover part of their rising medical school costs, but 14 to 20 years of school can quickly add up to a very high sum.  An anthropologist salary, which requires far less education (only a Master’s Degree and some experience required), has an average salary of around $37,000 for someone straight out of graduate school.  Continuing on this road, an archivist salary tends to be around the same, but finding a job usually requires more education due to the high amount of competition around most job posts that become available.  Typically, many degrees are needed to remain competitive as an archivist, since many people will be clamoring for any job that opens up.

If you’d like to become an announcer, either on television or radio, higher education is easily replaced with experience, although a basic degree does help.  Depending on the type of announcing you would like to do, the announcer salary can either be experience (working for free is very common at the beginning of a career) to over $100,000, mainly for those with extensive experience who work for very large companies.

All of these jobs that require substantial education and experience can all easily be compared to the cab driver.  Depending on the city they are working in, the cab driver salary can be upwards of $20 and hour plus tips.  A cab driver earning $20 an hour and working 40 hours a week is making around $41,600 annually with a minimum of a high school education and a clean driving record, not including tips.  That’s around $4,600 more than the starting pay of an anthropologist or an archivist.
